Books-A-Million, the second largest book company in the United States is looking for a high energy and skilled Buyer to join our Merchandising team at our Corporate office.

 

The Buyer is responsible for planning, merchandising and managing product categories across all stores and for achieving sales goals for the company related to the respective merchandise area. Determines the amount of product inventory in all locations, as well as the total assortment. Reviews and analyses various sales reports to identify trends and meet customer needs.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

·         Achieve  sales, inventory and gross margin goals

·         Maintain current product lines

·         Identify, analyze and pursue category trends

·         Support store Operations and Marketing teams with Planograms, Product Information and Merchandise updates

·         Determine purchasing requirements  by reviewing inventories and purchase requests

·         Identify suppliers by researching materials, equipment and supplies availability; evaluating alternatives, verifying supplier performance record and certification

·         Obtain quotes from suppliers

·         Place orders to include negotiating price, terms and delivery

·         Ensure availability of items by tracking and expediting delivery

·         Review and resolve discrepancies by comparing order to delivery documentation, obtaining credits and refunds.

·         Maintain records of purchasing documents

·         Continuously improve quality results by analyzing materials, equipment, supplies and supplier reliability and make recommended changes

·         Provides purchasing, planning and control information by collecting , analyzing and summarizing data and trends

·         Updates job knowledge by attending trade shows, participating in educational and training opportunities, reading processional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations

·         Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·         Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising or similar field of study required

·         Three or more years retail merchandising experience as a Buyer or Assistant Buyer

Preferred Skills

·         Ability to identify, assess and negotiate with vendors

·         Strong MS Office skills but especially MS Excel

·         Ability to work both independently and as a cooperative member of a team

·         Strong analytic skills to collect  and analyze data, trends and reports

·         Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing

·         Creativity for spotting new trends and products in area of responsibility

  •     Ability to support all customers including outside vendors, stores
