Engineer III - Flight Test Instrumentation

Bell Helicopter - Patuxent River, Maryland

This position is for an experienced Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) engineer within Bell Helicopter’s Instrumentation group located at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland. The Engineering Specialist requisition targets experienced candidates who require little to no training in the area of FTI core competencies. On-the-job training will be provided for Bell specific applications and procedures. The work focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading existing instrumentation systems specific to the fleet of V-22 Osprey flight test aircrafts. The incumbent will provide engineering support in the way of direction, documentation and presentations in pursuit of accurate flight test instrumentation data in accordance with program needs.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • This requisition focuses on the candidate that has established FTI core competencies, good leadership/mentoring skills and is a good communicator.
  • The candidate is expected to perform all aspects of FTI engineering work as well as provide leadership through guidance, direction and team mentoring.
  • Contributing to the improvement of the group though continuous learning, innovative ideas and the like in order to improve efficiency and reduce overall cost is expected.
  • Work within established schedules and budgets as defined by the team leader.
  • Maintain good communications with supervisory staff.
  • Early identification of issues, problem resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Proficient in the use of specialized Bell developed software applications.
  • Participate in regular meetings and teleconferences to address program issues and concerns and to serve as a point of contact for managing issues.
  • Provide work instructions, direction and support for maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading all related instrumentation systems.
  • Manage documentation including updates to procedures, distribution of meeting notes, metric reporting, use of reporting tools, distribution of schedule updates/status and maintaining proper instrumentation configuration documents.

Education Requirements

  • B.S. (M.S. preferred) in electrical or aerospace engineering from an accredited university.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience specifically in flight test instrumentation with proven knowledge of advanced electrical concepts in this unique field.
  • Proven leadership in the area of team management as well as technical direction and mentoring.
  • Subject matter expert on the selection, implementation, configuration, programming and troubleshooting of Teletronic Technology Corporation (TTC) hardware in order to meet program measurement requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of TTCWare software and AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in creating and reviewing flight test instrumentation electrical drawings and procedures.
  • Experienced with the different types, use and implementation of the standard suite of flight test sensors.
  • Read and speak English fluently
