Network Engineer

The Network Engineer’s role will provide technical support for the enterprise voice and data network to address client business requirements and provide support for out-of-service events. General guidance is provided by the Team Leader and/or senior Team members. A self-directed approach with intermediate skills is necessary to ensure delivery and support of voice and data network services including design, implementation and performance management, as well as related hardware, software and services required to provide business requirements and overall strategy. This is a mid-level position.

Essential Functions

Strategy & Planning

• Participate in project planning for network integration of new acquisitions, site remodels/ relocations, and Global datacenters. Meet specified timelines for completion.

• Work with international and national sites to ensure production needs are met from a network standpoint.

• Work with vendors to understand current service offerings and how those can be used to improve our environment.

Acquisition & Deployment

• Coordinate with business units, business application teams, server teams, and database teams, to successfully implement a network solution to meet their needs.

• Deploy IOS upgrades to network appliances to ensure our environment is current and running at optimal performance.

Operational Management

• Monitor the network support queue and resolve reported / proactive problems in an efficient manner to meet SLA’s.

• Handle open cases with vendors by utilizing the vendor tools. Such vendors include: AT&T, Verizon, Bluecoat, and Logos.

• Work with other IT groups as an advisor to help resolve technical issues.

• Complete service requests to meet SLA’s. Service requests include: DNS, IP, load balancer, telephony needs, datacenter; port configurations, capacity planning.

• Investigate site slowness and recommend action plans.

• Support and manage Cleveland and Warrensville Global Datacenters.

• Provide network design and services for Moves, Adds and Changes in Cleveland HQ, Warrensville, and BTC facilities.

• Proactively monitor alerts in Spectrum and WAN activity in Scrutinizer.

• Support our global video conference infrastructure.

• Complete circuit upgrades as requested.

• Document projects and update key information needed for support.

• Support and implementation for IP telephony needs.

• Handle regular maintenance tasks as assigned.

• Participate in semi-annual DR support and adjust processes as needed to ensure a successful test.

• Replace failed hardware from our hardware depot / site reclaims. Open cases with vendors and ensure service levels are met. Follow procedures as defined for this process.

• Provide telephony (key / PBX) consultation and implementation as needed.

• Play a role in site network refreshes. Recommend solutions to meet current standards and ensure optimal performance.

• Participate in deploying telephony and voice mail systems.

• Support for our wireless network by providing installation and support services.

• Install, configure, and support, Bluecoat WAN acceleration at specified sites.

• Install, configure, and support, EVDO backup connectivity solution at specified sites.

Incidental Functions

• Assist with Change Management preparations and implementations.

• Attend meetings in participation with the team, clients, peer and/or management

• Assist with other projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and

effectiveness of the group.

• Assist in design and engineering of WAN/LAN, wireless, optical, voice, and video networks.

• Provide periodic 24/7 on-call support of specific functions.

• Some travel as required.

• Work outside the standard office 7.5 hours workday as required.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

• Bachelor Degree or foreign equivalent in related field or equivalent experience.

• Training in areas of network services preferred (MPLS, VOIP, telephony, ISP Provisioning, video, VPN, EVPN, WAN acceleration, firewall administration, load balancer, DNS/IP management).

Knowledge & Experience

• 2 years IT experience.

• 2 years experience with network hardware/software trouble-shooting.

• 2 years experience with IT technical support experience.

Experience & Skills Preferred

• 2 years installation and support experience in a LAN / WAN networking environment with focus on: MPLS, VOIP, telephony, frame relay, ISP, video, VPN, EVPN, WAN acceleration, load balancers, DNS / IP management, routing, switching, firewalls, cabling, DR, integrated voice services, and service providers.

• 2 years of experience in presenting and demonstrating solutions to an audience of peers and business units.
