Position Summary:
We are currently looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer for a Des Moines, IA location. The Assistant Chief Engineer participates in staff hiring strategy and process, new hire training and ongoing performance management. In addition to regular duties, the Engineer will also do the following in addition to other tasks:
Supervises and directs maintenance staff and monitors performance of their assigned responsibilities.
Responsible for compliance management and record keeping.
Performs and/or directs the performance of all engineering departmental service requests, insuring that work performed in these areas is accomplished efficiently with a minimum amount of disruption and inconvenience.
Checks malfunctioning equipment and ascertains corrective action required to restore to satisfactory operating condition.
Ensures timely responses to tenant requests, including accessibility to respond to emergency calls when off duty.
Recommends and estimates facilities repairs and improvements for inclusion in the annual budget.
TRAINING:
The Engineer will also provide:
Training and supervision aimed at expanding the capabilities of the operations staff.
Demonstrate the proper use and care of tools and instruments.
Give hands-on instruction in basic engineering, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.
Recommend relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment.
SAFETY:
In addition to training new hires, The Assistant Chief Engineer will also oversee the implementation of the Safety Program. The Engineer will train employees in the following procedures:
Supervise and implement the CMMS preventative maintenance program.
Schedule preventative maintenance with a minimum disruption of building services.
Perform and/or delegates preventative maintenance tasks to the appropriately qualified maintenance staff member.
Order parts and equipment required for repair, maintenance and installation of new equipment and facilities, and maintains inventory.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required, and, 2 years of trade schooling in refrigeration and HVAC.
EXPERIENCE:
5 or more years of experience in a facility/plant engineering maintenance setting.
5 years of previous supervisory experience, preferred.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum
Previous experience with operation and maintenance in a commercial office setting.
Ability to organize and present technical and project mgt. overviews without assistance.
Demonstrated leadership skills and client management skills.
Preferred
Experience as a journeyman level engineer with strong skills related to building automation systems, life safety systems.
Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, and electrical systems engineering and operation.
