The Business Development Manager (Retail) is responsible for developing and managing the sale of PPG Brands to existing retailers, distributors and new customers in the Western US driving incremental volume and margin growth.
Job responsibilities include:
Actively manage and grow a market specific sales territory/customer base which includes business on a direct and indirect basis from distributors and retailers in the Western US.
Develop and execute an annual business plan with existing customers to grow and support our mutual business by identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to expand PPG brands.
Must be self-motivated, goal orientated and demonstrate the ability to take initiative, be proactive in identifying challenges, issues and recommend solutions. Individual must be able to build relationships with customers and internal associates, and follow through on all aspects of the business.
Manage, motivate and hold independent manufacture rep. agencies accountable for their territories and customers results. Be able to work with agency personnel on joint sales calls to existing and target customers and in support of various customer events/shows.
Prioritize multiple market initiatives and deadlines, identify specific needs and capitalize on the territory opportunities to exceed sales goals.
Provide, sell and educate customers on tools to promote PPG brands - product support, sales promotions, marketing and merchandising materials and advertising opportunities. This would include all PPG product categories including sundries.
Organize/conduct customer and mfg. sales reps. education and product information seminars.
Handle all elements of customer trade shows, including development of show promotions, booth requirements, and show set-up & breakdown and show hours.
Remain adaptable, flexible and resourceful in dealing with the market specific demands, needs and opportunities.
Maintain and manage accurate records, use initiative in identifying and solving the day to day customer issues, and other potential issues on a timely basis.
Must have a strong knowledge of the market, be a self-starter with the ability to successfully work and achieve goals with a minimum amount of direction and possess strong planning skills to manage business across a region.
Carry out responsibilities in a safe and accident-free environment, as well as in an ethical manner in accordance with PPG policy.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, preferably in business management or marketing, or equivalent work experience is required.
Possess at least 3 years’ experience as a coatings or building products sales representative.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, negotiating and presentation skills are necessary.
Solid functional / computer skills, must have the ability to create PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets and work with other MS office programs.
Organizational and time management skills
Moderate travel is required. Weekend, evenings and overnight stays will be expected.
