Network Systems Engineer Intermediate (Government)

• Provides technical engineering assistance to all phases of network development, operation and management.
• Monitors network topologies; develops and evaluates alternative utilization or configuration options.
• Conducts performance and trend analysis to include individual circuit availability rates.
• Develops processes and programs to enhance network performance and reliability.
• Conducts network testing, technology insertion, and developmental software application testing as required.
• Provides functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training and quality assurance/quality control to Associate personnel.
• Continuity of Operations (COOP).Basic Job Description: Designs and plans network communications systems.
• Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
• Conducts testing of network design.
• Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
• Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

Specific Job Description: Qualified candidates should have extensive network integration experience for a variety of network protocol standards. Experience analyzing WAN Networks such as ATM, DWDM, SONET, SDH and TDM. Experience with VLAN, routing, IP addressing and sub-netting. Excellent project, technical, interpersonal, presentation and problem management skills. Certifications or direct experience with major network system vendors such as Cisco SONET/SDH, Cienna, Coriant (Sycamore) are a strong plus. The candidate selected for this position will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Understanding of network routing protocols, control plane mechanisms, MPLS, SNMP, and test equipment are a plus Basic Qualifications:

• Experience troubleshooting and configuring WAN / transport networks.
• Experience with Cryptographic equipment.
• Detailed knowledge of multiple networking protocols such as SONET, SDH, DWDM, ATM and TDM.
• One of the following 8570 Certification IAT II (CCNA Security, Security CE, GSEC or SSCP)

Desired skills:

• Ability to communicate orally, and in writing, detailed technical information.
• ITIL Certification.
• CCNA/CCNP
• Familiarization of DOD regulations and directives.
• Proficient in configuration, troubleshooting and design of ATM, SONET, SDH, DWDM, Promina TDM.
• Specific vendor equipment experience: Cienna, Cisco SONET/SDH, Coriant, SONUS, Oceus.
• Advanced security certification and/or knowledge of attack vectors experienced in today' networks.
• Crypto configuration, troubleshooting, and design experience.
• IP, Routing protocols, VPN and Firewall knowledge and experience a plus.
• Physical cable plant and wiring experience

Required Clearance: Secret w/SSBI (minimum); TS desired
