Position Summary:

Job Summary:

The Fire Alarm Suppression Tech tests, inspects, maintains and repairs the fire alarm, fire suppression and support systems located throughout Beaumont Health System campuses and offsite buildings. Ensures fire alarm and fire suppression systems meet standards.

The Fire Alarm Suppression Tech reports to the Chief Engineer, AFM, Facilities Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

Fire Alarm Inspections

  • Conducts an ongoing test program to ensure proper operation of the fire alarm signaling systems and the automatic fire sprinkler system (To include, but not limited to smoke detectors, signals, fire doors, water flows, tamper switches and fire pumps).
  • Drain down sprinkler systems for updates as needed.
  • Maintains and repairs the fire alarm, fire suppression and support systems.
  • Maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the fire alarm and fire suppression systems to reduce the possibility of false alarms and system malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs any deficiencies found during testing.
  • Disables fire detection and suppression systems to allow for completion of ongoing construction projects on the campus.
  • Maintains up-to-date as-built drawings for all fire and suppression systems.  Notes any discrepancies found during testing/preventative maintenance.
  • Ensures supplies are available for repair or replacement for fire alarm systems and automatic fire sprinkler systems.
  • Maintains and contributes to a safe work environment.
  • Additional Duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education / Training
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Successful completion of two years of relevant technical/vocational school coursework (or equivalent experience).
  • Fire alarm/fire suppression certification.
Years of Relevant Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic electrical.
  • Knowledge of circuitry and wiring for fire alarm systems.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of all current facility code and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook).
Other Abilities
  • The job requires operating tools or equipment with a skill level that is typically acquired through trade or vocational school training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be required in order to communicate with vendors, guests, hospital staff, management, co-workers and all other persons.
Physical Work Requirements and Work Conditions
  • This job requires the candidate to be flexible with the daily / weekly work schedule. Must be willing to work off hours as needed, and / or weekends, with occasional overtime.
  • The typical work environment involves potentially high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations that require adherence to prescribed safety policies, procedures and precautions.
  • This job may require working indoors and outdoors in a range of temperatures that may vary from hot to cold. Bending, lifting, twisting, walking or standing for multiple hours may be required.
