Temporary Operating Engineer

Position Summary:

Overview:      
 
Have commercial building maintenance experience or similar training. A basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire systems, electrical equipment, repair and maintenance, BMS systems, commercial kitchen equipment, UPS systems & power generators is preferred. 
 
Must understand and demonstrate safe ladder and hand tool use and use of personal safety protection equipment (PPE).   
 
Must be able to operate independently and have strong interpersonal/communication skills.
 
Must be able to oversee and support project work and contractors/vendors.
 
Experience in Critical Environments/Data Centers preferred but not required.

Able to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must be able to use CMMS work order systems.

 
Universal CFC recovery certification preferred but not required.
 
Must be able to pass an extensive background check for eligibility.
 
 
Reports to:      Chief Engineer
Supervises:      No direct reports
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
 
Oversee the execution of contracted maintenance/project work as needed.  Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: Escorting, observing and reporting any contractor issues or concerns to the Chief Engineer. Executing the impairment procedure for the fire system as required, facilitating construction work.
 
Perform preventive maintenance and respond to repair work orders on facility mechanical, electrical and other installed systems, equipment and other components.

Complete any maintenance work order that is assigned to you as required.  

Perform assigned facility inspections, oversee vendor work and due diligence efforts, reporting on conditions impacting or at risk of impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.

Prepare and submit to management as directed a summary report listing conditions found while performing assigned work, and recommend action to be taken.

Study and become familiar with the various items of equipment and the methods required to use them properly while performing daily duties. This is to include building automation systems, fire/life safety systems and any other building related equipment.

Comply with all safety procedures; maintain good housekeeping and safety of work areas.  Recognize danger and safety hazards and report them or propose methods to eliminate them.

Maintain compliance of State, County and City Ordinances, Codes and Laws where applicable as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Participate in company training program for safety and professional development if required.

Interact with external and internal customers, vendors and contractors with a positive demeanor.

 Assist the Chief Engineer with operational or project recommendations such as process improvement efficiencies. 

Maintain and update assigned computerized work orders and hourly time card reporting as directed. 



 
 
 
Minimum Requirements:
 

  • Education-
    • High School diploma or state equivalent required.
  • Experience-
    • Prefer some trade experience or training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing.
  • Special knowledge and skills–
    • Capable in the use of tools and equipment common to trade and craft.
  • Personal characteristics-
    • Team player, hard worker, good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports.
    • Familiar with computer equipment and programs.
