Lean and Continuous Improvement Manager (and Oracle Site Leader)

This position is located at one of PPG's largest coatings manufacturing sites in the world.  The Lean Leader position is a highly visible role in the manufacturing organization reporting to the Regional Plant Manager and being responsible for driving Business Process Improvement (BPI) / continuous improvement, 5S and Lean initiatives at the Oak Creek, WI facility. 
 
In order to become successful s/he will have to quickly learn PPG, our methodologies, process, equipment and technologies to effectively lead teams and in a variety manufacturing and business process improvement efforts throughout the operation.  Having the knowledge of and a passion for lean principles and business process improvement will enable this person to lead and drive significant achievements and milestones for the operation and business. 
 
The Lean Leader is responsible for:
  • Provide direction and leadership to all manufacturing resources and project team leaders responsible for implementing business process improvements using 5S, Sigma Logic, Lean Enterprise and Business Process Excellence methodologies. 
  • Provide guidance for the quality efforts of Industrial Coatings manufacturing to insure that methodologies are deployed effectively to achieve business objectives
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for all Lean initiatives that are in alignment with plant and business objectives
 
While the key priorities of the role is Business Process Improvement and Lean initiatives, the Lead Leader will also own a key strategic role as it relates to the sites progression towards Oracle implementation.  A successful Lean Leader will first be able to learn Oracle on their way to becoming the Oracle Site Lead.  As the Oracle implementation window approaches for Oak Creek anticipated responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with Project Lotus team members to deliver an effective and on-time site implementation for Oracle
  • Ensure site implementation readiness
  • Maintain the site implementation project plan and communicate site project status
  • Ensure risks are identified and mitigation actions are completed, escalate issues
  • Facilitate the logistics, e.g., meeting schedules, site contacts, meeting room availability, clerical support, system access, training schedules etc.
  • Develop metrics and periodically assess implementation effectiveness

Minimum or Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree years of experience leading lean initiatives in a chemical
  • At least seven (7) years lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience within chemical manufacturing
     
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications):
  • Six Sigma and Lean Leader training
  • Oracle and site implementation experience
 
Skills:
  • Strong ability to influence, obtain credibility and lead cross-functional teams
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing business concepts, lean principles and 5S tools
  • Passion for improvement
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels of employees
