The Color Technologist is located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and reporting to the Automotive Parts Accessories Finishes (APAF) Segment Team Leader. This is a key role within our technical and chemistry group and has a tremendous impact on finished product to our Customer.
A Color Technologist role is primarily a laboratory position responsible for color design and color matching activities for industrial coatings primarily in the APAF and Transportation segments. The individual will create and design colors in different technologies for our Industrial Coatings segment teams.
In order to become successful the Color Technologist will have to quickly learn PPG, our technologies and methodology of producing superior products. A successful and impactful candidate needs to show creative and/or artistic ability with a strong ability to interpret someone else’s idea into a product. It's critical that the Color Technologist assumes ownership for the management and completion of customer driven projects. There may be some travel required of less than 25%.
Additional Responsibilities:
Acquire and maintain application knowledge of assigned customers or market segments
Communicate with pigment suppliers for current products and capabilities
Understand the cost implications on the formulas developed
Work effectively in a collaborative team environment supporting future and current customers with their coatings solutions.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science discipline
At least one (1) years of color design-styling/matching experience
At least one (1) years experience with pigments and mixing pigments
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)
Five (5) years of experience with color matching/coatings formulation experience.
Customer field experience with OEM designers, stylist and color influencers is also desired.
Skills
Good understanding of coatings technologies/chemistry
Ability to effectively design coating formulations and have disciplined problem solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across all functions internally and externally
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong lab skills.
