Position Summary:

Responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating machinery and systems in a cost-effective manner. The primary responsibility for this role is the oversight of an account specific Critical Environment Program to ensure the efficient operations and maintenance of all Critical Environment facilities for the account.  Ensure Maintenance of facility electrical, mechanical, structural, life safety and critical back-up systems is maintained and system up time is maximized.  Apprise the owner’s representative of any and all conditions affecting system operations and reliability. The specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to program management, procedure development and tracking of operational indices.

The Chief Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients’ needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. Responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client’s assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function. The Chief Engineer will implement and manage the reliability-based maintenance function.  The incumbent also executes equipment inspection and monitoring programs; defines and implements maintenance best practices to improve overall mechanical equipment uptime; and continuously evaluates current maintenance, operations and reliability methods and implements changes to enhance effectiveness at increasing value-maximizing performance.
 
 Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the building’s staff and occupants work in a safe environment. Implement, administer, and manage safety training program.
  • Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building’s infrastructure. Responsible for alerting management of building discrepancies.
  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the building including up-to-date building drawings and single-lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local law.
  • Development of policies and procedures related to maintenance and operation of Critical Environment space and equipment.  Monitor performance of assigned areas of responsibility. Ensure that worked performed in all spaces is accomplished efficiently with a minimum amount of disruption and meets all JLL EHS requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes.
  • Understands aspects of construction planning and execution.
  • Provides training and support aimed at expanding the capabilities of the operations staff. Specific duties include but are not limited to: demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
  • Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering and operation.
  • Understand the engineering design and operational aspects of the facility’s Critical Environment systems and equipment at all Facilities. Must be able to immediately recognize system design shortcomings and respond to operational and emergency situations.
  • Formulate and implement the preventative and predictive maintenance program.  Specific duties include but are not limited to: scheduling of preventative maintenance with a minimum disruption performing and/or delegating preventative maintenance tasks to the appropriately qualified maintenance staff.
  • Provides Critical Environment operational reports outlining system short falls in meeting customer reliability requirements.  Develop cost effective recommendations and business plan proposals to improve system reliability.
  • Support site technical staff training to improve Data Center knowledge and elimination of human caused interruptions.
  • Meet or exceed established KPI’s

Qualifications:  
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or equivalent of on the job experience directing and managing a facility engineering department. 
  • Data Center engineering design and operating training helpful.
  • 10+ years of experience in facility/plant engineering and maintenance supervision.  Managerial experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering and operation, back-up power design and data center design.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Excellent interpersonal communications, client relationship management and team building skills.
