Position Summary:

Job Title: Thermal Engineer for High Voltage Battery Systems 

Position Overview/Description:  
Join Ford’s High Voltage (HV) Battery Technology team to develop and improve battery thermal management systems for our expanding array of electrified vehicles, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV), and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).


Responsibilities: 
 
 
Job Requirements:

  • Develop liquid, air, and refrigerant-based cooling/heating solutions to meet the functional needs of HV battery systems and components
  • Lead / support small team projects with 1-3 year durations to take ideas from concept through prototype evaluation
  • Collaborate with other battery skill teams (mechanical, electrical, and cell) and vehicle thermal management teams to develop balanced solutions.
  • Examine existing requirements and evolving functional needs to improve battery thermal design documents. Update / develop corporate documents as appropriate
  • Clarify needs vs. wants, design specific direction vs. generic functional requirements
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. Engineering degree (Mechanical, Aerospace/Aeronautical)
  • 1 or more years experience in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and systems engineering skills
Preferred Requirements:
  • M.S. Engineering degree with heat transfer/thermal concentration preferred
  • Preference to experience with high voltage systems, steady state and transient conduction/convection/radiation heat transfer, air/liquid/refrigerant cooling media, manufacturing/assembly, Computer Aided Engineering/Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, and/or cost.
  • Strong project leadership & organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Comfortable with “clean sheet” engineering problems
