Active Safety Test Method Application Engineer

Position Summary:

Lead or support the invention and creation of new enabling Active Safety technologies, features, or systems related to collision avoidance and collision mitigation for use in Ford Motor Company global Safety Electronics applications. The selected candidate will work closely within the global Safety Electronics core and regional application teams to progress and deliverer these technologies to vehicle program teams that  are compliant with expected requirements and deliverables.
Lead the development of Active safety test feature test methods encompassing component, subsystem and vehicle level test methods consisting of:
 

  • Positive test methods to ensure  proper operations of features  in real world environments  for upcoming scenarios that a difficult to do in an representative, repeatable and safe manner  (crossing traffic,  cyclists, pedestrians)
  • Negative test methods that change sensors in a manner to simulate real world limitations in an accelerated manner to minimize real world data gathering
  • Develop statistical methods that can predict real world performance
  • Understand the performance requirements for the sensing system, establish feature model to operate with the sensor performance envelop and  establish procedures to verify performance both quantitatively and subjectively
  • Understand sensor system interactions in terms of vehicle dynamics to identify possible improvements and trade-offs.  Identify changes needed to improve performance and meet objectives
  • Establish Feature objectives and ensure system operation to meet the objectives through structured component, sub-system, and system level test methodologies
  • Work with the Ford Hardware in the Loop Team to establish CAE procedures to reduce dependence on vehicle level testing
  • Oversee/Sign off of Feature Level performance per a given vehicle
Basic Qualification
 
  • BS EE, ME, Aerospace, or Controls Engineering
  • 1+ years of experience as an Applications engineer for active safety systems such as ACC, AEB, LKA, TJA Collision Avoidance, Anti-Lock Braking, Yaw Stability Control or Pre-Activated Restraint Systems
  • 1+ years ‘experience with radar/camera or LIDAR
Preferred Qualifications 
 
  • MS EE, ME, Aerospace or Controls Engineering
  • Control algorithm development using Matlab, Simulink or equivalent
  • Design and development of radar, image processing or similar digital signal processing applications
  • Modeling / analyzing / simulating radar and/ or vision and/or Lidar sensor performance
  • Developing and conducting laboratory and vehicle tests. Data collection and analysis of Active Safety sensor systems
