Autonomous Driving Functional Safety Engineer

Position Summary:

The Functional Safety Engineer is responsible for applying the Ford Functional Safety standards and industry common practices to the development of new technologies. The engineer would lead the development, planning, and tracking of various Functional Safety work products for Ford Driver Assistance Technologies (DAT) and Fully Automated Vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of hazard analysis documentation used in DAT and Automated feature development
  • Development of system level functional safety requirements for DAT and Automated feature development
  • Assist in the creation of system level technical requirements for DAT and Automated feature development
  • Development of test plans and procedures for verifying that internally developed safety targets are met
  • Assisting in conducting experiments to validate vehicle system and subsystem performance meet safety targets
  • Support in developing and maintaining a Safety Culture.
  • Support Functional Safety application with process and technical expertise
  • Support the management of the Functional Safety processes and methods
 
Basic Qualifications: 
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer)
  • 5 years- Experience in Hazard Analysis Techniques for System Safety (e.g. FMEA)
  • 3 years Experience in developing requirements based on Hazard analysis
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Self-starter and function with limited supervision
  • Prior experience in dependability or safety field for automotive or other industries strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of system safety standards (e.g. ISO26262, IEC61508)
  • Experience in system modeling preferred
  • Experience with SW/HW engineering development activities
