Position Summary:


Position Overview/Description:  
 
The Hybrid Electric Transmission and Driveline System Engineer will define mechanical and electrical architecture for hybrid and electric drivetrains. You will analyze kinematics of hybrid and electric drivetrains, as well as analyze mechanical and electric power flow in hybrid and electric transmissions and drivelines. You will define requirements for interfacing systems including mounts, battery, cooling, and controls.
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Synthesize drivetrain architectures to meet required attributes
  • Determine required torque and power of electric machines to meet vehicle attributes
  • Assess powertrain system capability to meet requirements and perform trade-off studies to optimize attribute balance
  • Analyze behavior of drivetrain architecture in various vehicle use case scenarios
  • Evaluate drivetrain transient behaviors of alternative architectures
  • Develop mathematical models and calculation tools to standardize and automate analytical methods
  • Perform testing, data collection, and data processing in support of attribute and capability assessments
  • Author drivetrain functional requirements and gain consensus among affected subsystem owners on controls and hardware compatibility
  • Author drivetrain interface requirements for mounting, cooling, electrical, brakes, and controls and gain consensus among affected subsystem owners on controls and hardware compatibility
  • Evaluate cost and benefits of new technologies, evaluate their impact on system functions and error states, and define related system requirements
  • Lead implementation of project tasks to meet project timelines
  • Create written summaries of projects and lead project reviews with affected teams
 
Job Requirements:
Basic Qualifications: 
  • B.S. in Engineering
  • 3+ years of engineering work experience
  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical power transmission
  • 1+ years of experience in product design
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. in Engineering
  • 8+ years of engineering work experience
  • Automotive engineering experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strong analytical/modeling skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams and driving product development issues to resolution
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills - ability to organize multiple inputs into succinct summary and manageable discussion
  • Experience communicating technical information concisely in executive reviews
  • Understanding of hybrid powertrain system functionality and attributes and at subsystem and vehicle levels
  • Understanding of automotive transmission design
  • Understanding of electric machine design
  • Demonstrated capability to create and verify mathematical models using commonly-available modeling software
  • Knowledge of powertrain controls and calibration preferred
  • Experience in program planning, program management, powertrain component or system design is preferred
