Position Summary:

Mechanical Engineer – High Voltage Battery Systems

Position Overview/Description: 

Work within Ford’s Core HV battery team, along with our production HV battery teams and the Ford technical community to develop the future generation of mechanical solutions for HV battery systems. You will develop new mechanical/system solutions to meet the functional needs of HV battery systems and components more effectively. Examine existing requirements and evolving functional needs of HV battery systems to mature core design documents. You will investigate functional expectations and corporate background for requirements, design rules, etc. This person will be responsible for clarifying the needs vs wants, design specific direction vs generic functional requirements. You will update and develop corporate documents as appropriate.


Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and support small team projects within a 1-3 year time frame.
  • Collaborate with thermal, electrical, cell and other Engineers.
  • Manage Project from concept through prototype evaluation.
  • Examine existing requirements and evolving functional needs of HV battery systems to mature core design documents.
  • Investigate functional expectations and corporate background for requirements, design rules, etc.
  • Clarify the needs vs wants, design specific direction vs generic functional requirements.
  • Update and develop corporate documents as appropriate.  
 
Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications: 
  • BS- Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics and Astronautics (EMA) or Aerospace Engineer or Materials Science Engineer (MSE)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Systems engineering experience
  • Strong project leadership & organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Comfortable with “clean sheet” engineering problems
  • Experience with high voltage systems, structures, crashworthiness, heat transfer, polymers, manufacturing/assembly, CAE analysis and cost estimation
