Position Summary:

Onboard Charger D&R Engineer

Position Overview/Description: 

This individual will be responsible for the Electrified vehicle charger component and subsystem product design. They will also be responsible for the design and release while  delivering Quality, Cost, Weight and Functional requirements, and meeting program milestones. You will also be responsible for the design and release of the Electrified Vehicle Onboard Charger for current and future model electric and/or hybrid electric programs including:
 
Responsibilities: 

  • Work with suppliers on root cause analysis of current model field returns.
  • Work with suppliers to determine corrective and preventive actions of a field failure.
  • Work with vehicle program teams to gain approval for cost/weight implications of part changes
  • Release revisions and new parts into the Ford system
  • Lead component program module team (CPMT) team comprised of suppliers, Purchasing/STA, Manufacturing, attribute teams, interfacing CPMT's, and Vehicle team.
  • Manage quality foundation documents including dFMEA, SDS, DVP&R, & Inverted Delta safety critical characteristics.
  • Lead sizing studies of fusing and connectors for HV application
  • Design of retention features like brackets, clips, etc.
  • Support vehicle and component packaging studies; Manage Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers; Interpret and apply Industry and Ford charger packaging requirements and specifications.
  • System level testing to validate component (electrical breadboard and vehicle)
  • Achieve PPAP with zero deviations for onboard charger
  • Support launch at Ford facilities.
 
Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications: 
  • BS- Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 years experience communicating technical information (experience on college engineering project teams is applicable)
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of automotive engineering experience preferred
  • Experience with power electronics/vehicle low voltage charging systems preferred
  • Knowledge of high voltage automotive systems and electric and/or hybrid electric vehicle systems preferred
  • Practical knowledge including design, sizing, and packaging
  • Understanding of CAN multiplex communications
  • Electrified vehicle powertrain design experience preferred
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams and driving product development issues to resolution
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills - ability to organize multiple inputs into succinct summary and manageable discussion
  • Knowledge of Ford requirement and DV management tools preferred
