Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist

Position Summary:

OVERVIEW
The EHS Specialist directs the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the JLL EHS management systems at a client facility in coordination with the Site EHS Manager. In this capacity, the EHS Specialist is accountable to provide guidance and to implement EHS management systems and compliance programs related to JLL scope of work.
 
The EHS Specialist will also support JLL on EHS issues, evaluate potential hazardous situations, conduct accident investigations, provide training, conduct inspections and assessments, and ensure JLL is compliant with all EHS regulatory and Client requirements. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office/Suite, and other software programs or pieces of technology identified as standard for Jones Lang LaSalle or requested by the client. The EHS Specialist assumes the Site EHS Managers’ responsibilities as necessary.
 
The EHS Specialist must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients’ needs, and commitment to achieving the goal of 100% compliance assurance within the engineering team.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for maintaining, monitoring and documenting preventive maintenance and continuous operation of EHS systems including: fire/life safety, electrical equipment and audits the sites refrigerant management program.
  • Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace. Insure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of EHS equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee the activities of JLL contractors working within the buildings or on the client’s site.
  • Required to perform weekly in field audits of work in progress to verify compliance with JLL and clients safety and work site requirements.
  • Responsible for advance training and notification to all contractors so that they are informed and knowledgeable with respects to the EHS policies and procedures related to the work they are to perform, including maintaining incident contact response list.
  • Provide the interface with the clients Environmental Health and Safety Team.
  • Prepare and maintain the JLL Engineering Services Compliance Program. Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the buildings staff and occupants work in a safe environment. Implement, administer and manage safety training programs.
  • Ensure all Jones Lang LaSalle policies and procedures are adopted. Ensure compliance with Jones Lang LaSalle Compliance Audit.
  • Provide support, in the development of the environment, health, and safety culture including the development and implementation of EHS management systems and compliance programs. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Evaluates hazards and conducts hazard assessments for environmental, health and safety risks. Communicates the hazards that are identified to minimize impact to both individuals and work plans.
  • Assist in the development of health and safety procedures and programs for all Jones Lang LaSalle activities and monitors safety compliance to reduce risks.
  • Conduct and coordinate the JLL inspection program at client sites.
  • Support the site in developing and implementing inspection action plans.
  • Identify training requirements and coordinates training sessions for emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, and forklift safety, and all other EHS training requirements.
  • Document training and provides support aimed at expanding the capabilities of operations staff.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate all phases of safety compliance operations in coordination with the EHS Manager.
  • Implement accident investigation and communication process including the identification of root causes.
  • Implement effective training and tools necessary to ensure that reports on EHS incidents and performance are submitted on a timely basis, and that corrective actions are taken.
  • Maintain liaison with client EHS organization to ensure that EHS problems are identified, solutions coordinated, and instill an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate Degree (or HS Diploma with completion of Safety Training &Certifications)
  • 10+ years related work experience in facilities maintenance and/or General Industry, Manufacturing Industry experience
  • Experience with testing for indoor air quality, mold conditions and water quality.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of state and federal codes and compliance requirements associated with Healthy Buildings
  • Maintaining test records and tracking chain of custody between sample locations and 3rd party test vendor.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills, including development and delivering effective training
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service
  • Ability to inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as bending, standing, climbing or walking
