The Professional Apprentice® position is located in downtown Cleveland at our Corporate Headquarters location. Position requires full year enlistment and a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week up to 28 hours per week

The Software Quality Assurance Professional Apprentice® is an individual and team contributor who will learn how to test software employing manual and automated techniques and tools. The skills learned will be utilized for testing on web sites and web applications, along with Oracle and non-Oracle applications.

Essential Functions

Strategy & Planning
• Gain an understanding of both business and functional requirements as they apply to software testing.
• Learn the basics of the Quality Assurance Lifecycle and how it fits into the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Learn and apply the basics of Sherwin-Williams’ project management software as it relates to Quality Assurance.

Acquisition & Deployment
• Write and execute test cases (manual testing).
• Create automated scripts for testing.
• Report and validate software defects.
• Interact and effectively communicate with developers and internal users as required to resolve problems.
• Perform regression tests to ensure product integrity and quality.

Operational Management
• Learn the basics of software testing for Web and Oracle applications in a manual and automated manner.
• Learn and apply knowledge of HP testing software.
• Assist in creating an environment within the QA team conducive to the transfer of knowledge and sharing of ideas.
• Assist with testing initiatives as directed by Quality Assurance testing team.
• Actively participate in the use of the Software Quality Assurance testing tools.
• Assist with executing manual and automated test scripts.
• Gain experience working with different software development methodologies: Waterfall and Agile.


Incidental Functions
• Assisting with projects as may be required to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the work.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification
• Currently enrolled in college degree program and actively working toward an Associate, Bachelor or Master Degree in related field.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Graduation date on or after May 2018

Knowledge & Experience
• Some knowledge of computer programming languages, operating systems, and databases.
