As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist at PPG’s Cleveland, Ohio Plant, you’ll be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees at the facility, and protecting our physical assets that help our employees achieve their potential.
You will contribute to our business by:
Quickly learning all about PPG core EHS processes, tools, etc. Important to any role at PPG, is that a professional bring their knowledge and expertise, learns PPG’s current processes and programs and connects their expertise to drive improvements and mitigate risk.
Develop and engage all employees in Safety365. PPG has an EHS management system designed to drive ownership for EHS through all levels in the organization. A key objective for this position will be to establish a team-based, collaborative approach to engage all employees in EHS. This involves helping every employee understand how their actions improve EHS performance of themselves and their colleagues.
Identify and assess risks and develop and implement recommendations. Critical to this role is the ongoing review of processes and the broader environment to ensure that our employees are set up for success in a safe environment. The most successful EHS Specialist is sought out by leaders and employees, and anticipates improvements before an issue occurs.
The incumbent will provide leadership, direction and training that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for the Cleveland associates while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, safety and health laws and regulations to minimize current and future liabilities. Close interaction with all levels of the manufacturing, technical and engineering organizations is required to ensure a consistent and unified EHS message.
The incumbent will be expected to actively participate and help manage the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Key responsibilities include: managing the plant safety and health process including but not limited to PPE, Respiratory Protection, Hot Work, Powered Industrial Trucks, industrial hygiene program, loss prevention strategy, emergency response activities, process safety management, driving the behavioral based safety process, incident reporting, and EHS training.
Required qualifications:
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Safety Science, Environmental Science or a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical facility.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that are adapted to specific audience (leaders and employees).
Demonstrates hands on approach to learn processes and to problem solve with others.
A technical background in Environmental, Health, and Safety with excellent coordination abilities, knowledge of EHS Regulations, interpersonal, verbal and written communications and presentation skills is required.
