Lab Service Technician

Position Summary:
POSITION SUMMARY
Staffs receiving dock and is responsible for physical security of dock area. Receives, ships, and delivers items to end-users. Is responsible for comprehensively accounting for all packages received through the receiving dock.
Handles other services as contracted with customer including but not limited to interoffice and U.S. Mail distribution, dry ice, gas cylinder and liquefied gas dewar delivery to labs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Makes decisions with the assistance of the local team and Supervisor/Manager, utilizing available resources to meet customer requirements. This includes proficiency and knowledge of customer procedures and policies, and appropriate usage of proper material handling tools and techniques.
- Utilizes basic systems or performs the functions stated below:
- Operates package tracking systems including hand held and PC based interfaces.
- Access various customer based systems/applications to complete daily work.
- Performs customer service duties with end users.
- Delivers direct shipment orders to end users.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Massachusetts Class D (or above) Driver’s License, preferred
- IATA/49CFR Certification, preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must possess a strong desire to serve the customer and the interpersonal skills to deal with various levels of personnel at the customer site and deliver excellent customer service.
- Must possess basic analytical skills; be flexible and willing to learn.
- Must possess the organizational skills to multi-task and meet deadlines as needed.
- Must be able to use a computer and possess basic skills in Excel and Word.
- Must exhibit a strong sense of urgency in order to accomplish daily tasks
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works primarily in a loading dock environment and as such must be able to endure and dress appropriately for associated regional climatic temperature variations.
- Extensive walking, standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds consistently. Must be able to pull fully laden liquefied gas dewars on wheels.
- Must be able to use push carts, pallet jacks, two wheeled dollies and associated material handling equipment.
- Must be able to work overtime with little or no notice as required by operational necessity.
