CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
• Designs and executes experiments, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations
• Understands structure property relationships and can communicate this to peers and customers
• Functions under limited supervision and is able to independently design experiments and write reports with limited, to no, review
• Accountable for contributing solutions to moderately complex projects
• Leads project update meetings, special request meetings, and customer, marketing, and vendor meetings and attends customer meetings, ISO, line, safety, technical meetings, management reviews, and seminars.
• Communicates detailed ideas concisely through written communication by writing technical reports.
• Complies with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations and maintains a clean work area
• Travels for manufacturing support, application sessions, exposure series, field tests, and customer visits
• Establishes a timeline by required due date
• Trains or mentors new or lower level technologists/technicians
• Adheres to company safety standards at all times
• Additional duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. FORMAL EDUCATION:
a. Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field
b. Preferred:
• Degree in Polymers and Coatings
2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
a. Required:
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
• Math knowledge
• Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings
• Knowledge of chemicals
b. Preferred:
• 2-5 years paint lab experience
3. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
• Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion
• Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
• Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
• May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
• May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
• Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
• Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
4. TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
a. Required:
• Organizational skills
• Able to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands
• Problem solving skills
• Ability to tailor communications to fit the needs of the audience
• Design of Experiment
b. Preferred:
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
Basic Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be willing to travel
• Must be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point and/or Access)
• Must have a four year Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
• Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and wear a respirator as required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2-5 years paint lab experience
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
