Position Description
 
Analyzes, implements, troubleshoots, and tunes moderately complex system software and associated utilities to support PPG Corporate and SBU applications worldwide.  Works effectively with cross-function teams of IT professionals to help develop, implement, and troubleshoot these systems.  Uses various system support tools and performance and monitoring tools.  Assists in testing and implementing system software, prepares documentation, and may lead small projects.  Plans, estimates, and monitors project timelines.  Works with guidance and direction from project leaders to ensure availability of critical systems.
 
Responsibilities
 
This position exists on the Windows Server / Virtualization Team within PPG’s Global Corporate IT Infrastructure Services Organization.  Minimal travel will be required (less than 10%).  Periodic weekend and off-hour support will be required as part of an on-call rotation.
As a member of this team the candidate will be responsible for day-to-day support activities and small or medium sized projects relating to VMware vSphere, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Dell Server technologies.  The candidate will also work to maintain and enhance team automation tools and create and update technical documentation.
 
Requires:
  • A four-year degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience
  • Three years of experience in systems software implementation and support
Skills:
  • Effective project management and time management skills
  • VMware vSphere Administration experience 5.x or 6.x
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems (2008 R2 and above)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerShell
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to describe complex technical concepts in a way that is easy to understand
