The Coatings Innovation Center at Allison Park, Pa. is PPG's global coatings research and development headquarters. The facility also includes offices for certain administrative functions, including global product stewardship and environmental affairs. The site opened in 1974.
Working as part of the Funded Initiatives Team, the Powder Coatings Chemist will work on a number of highly visible projects in a hands on environment conducting experiments in a lab setting.
Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be a member of the Funded Initiatives Team (FIT) and as such will be expected to act as Principal Investigator for one or more internally and/or externally funded projects as needed.
The incumbent will need to organize and supervise the project and/or project teams to which he/she is assigned, set milestones and ensure timelines are met.
Some hands-on work will be required directed at the fundamental understanding and mechanisms associated with developmental coating systems.
Coordination of related activities such as polymer synthesis, analytical testing and field demonstrations will be required.
The incumbent will interact with external customers and collaborators, present research findings and identify gaps for additional research.
An additional aspect of this position will be the need to recommend well thought-out transformational growth opportunities that lead to funding activity.
The incumbent will be required to network with other researchers and engineers across R&D, manufacturing and Corporate S&T in support of project execution and proposal development.

Requirements:
Experience and Education
MS or PhD in Chemistry or a related field, with 5 - 15 years’ experience in coatings and/or polymer research and development.
The position requires experience in powder coatings development, application and testing. Some knowledge of metal pretreatment technologies, liquid, waterbase and electrocoat coatings technologies is also preferred
Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident.
Functional and Technical Skills
The incumbent must be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of communication tools.
