Job Description
 
PPG Industrial Coatings produces coatings for appliances, agricultural and construction equipment, consumer electronics, automotive parts, residential and commercial construction, wood flooring and many other finished products.
 
PPG Industrial Coatings is committed to ongoing research and development of innovative technologies. From pre-treatment and electrocoat, to liquid, powder and even ultra-violet (UV) and electro-beam (EB) coatings, PPG can meet virtually any coatings challenge.
 
The APAF (Automotive Parts & Accessories - Functional) Segment Manager will report to the Director, Sales & Strategic Segments.  The incumbent will be responsible for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the current status and future direction of APAF segment and design a strategy that leverages PPG’s capabilities and delivers growth. This role can be based anywhere in the US, but there is >50% expected travel.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
To be successful in this role, the Segment Manager will  (1) Fully assess and understand the market (2) develop the market strategy (including sub segments, customers, technology, supply chain, and staffing needs) and (3) lead directly/indirectly the execution of the strategy.
 
Within the first 6 months, the Segment Manager will build strong internal and external relationships and revise the current strategy to define future state.
 
Specifically, the position formulates and directs implementation of the annual and long-term sales, marketing, and technical strategies for the Automotive Parts & Accessories - Functional coatings business segment, assuring that sales and profitability are achieved.  The APAF segment manager will direct activity at key strategic accounts as well as implement and coordinate segment strategies and new business development activities across the regional sales teams. Close cooperation between the strategic account managers, regional sales teams, technology centers, marketing, product management, customer service, technical service and other PPG staff is critical to the success of the business.
 
Major Accountabilities:
 
  • Understand market and industry trends and have an understanding of customer needs and opportunities, set goals and aspirations for the segment.
  • Define the Value Proposition
  • Meet Sales and Profitability plans for the North American APAF coatings segment.
  • Defines sales plans and new business development activities.
  • Manage pricing for the APAF segment and ensure consistency globally
  • Coordinate with supporting technical, finance, logistics, supply, manufacturing and human resources in order to achieve market position.
  • Support complexity reduction and business transformation initiatives.
  • Oversee timely and accurate communications regarding customer requirements, business opportunities and issues. 
  • Manage all functions in compliance with Industrial Coatings Values and Mission Statement, goals for safety, code of ethics and financial performance.
  • Actively participate in developing professional sales staff through coaching, mentoring and joint account visitation.

Minimum Required Qualifications
 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related
  • 8 or more years of B2B hands on commercial leadership experience
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA
