The Government and Education Business Development Manager (BDM) is focused on developing relationships with Government opportunities (including but not limited to, state and local municipalities, military bases and military housing) and Educational opportunities (including but not limited to, colleges and universities, K-12 and community colleges). The focus will be on developing new business and influencing them to use PPG Paints products and secure favorable and sole specification positions. This BDM role will be responsible for the US territory with focus in the areas of Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Expectations for this role include:
Drive new business sales with Government and Education corporate accounts and achieve annual sales targets.
Develop the sales strategy to identify, prioritize and target the high potential accounts within target segments. Develops and executes against comprehensive account plans that encompass owner to end user relationships.
Communicate all corporate account information to field sales, stores organization and participating dealers, including specs, local targets, color and pricing information.
Builds and maintains senior-level customer relationships.
Develops plans to proactively seek out new business and develops relationships to win this business
Analyze financial data on a regular basis, with the ability to determine and evaluate the need for change to drive financial gains. Responsible for complete account P&L (sales, gross profit, and customer contribution results)
Negotiate contracts and monitor compliance. Responsible for managing RFP and RFQ process
Implement necessary cost controls, execute on growth plans and strategies through all channels. Lead established pricing policies to maximize sales and margins.
Compile all reports required by Corporate Accounts Manager on a timely basis.
Maintain accurate records on all accounts and prospects including contacts, call activity and account specs, pricing, colors, reporting requirements, etc.
Coordinate as required with field sales managers and sales reps their roles and requirements on projects. Works with Regional Sales Managers to direct field reps to call on the local element of national accounts to ensure highest quality of service to individual customers.
Requirements:
5 years of paint or coatings experience.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in government or education account sales with a proven track record of success.
Strong orientation to new business development.
Outstanding negotiating and conflict management capabilities.
High degree of comfort around senior executives and is able to effectively build long term relationships with these individuals.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Proficient written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and web based applications.
Possess financial acumen (Understanding of financial statements, customer contribution and financial drivers at customer).
Flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends required) and ability to travel extensively (50% travel)
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
