Employment Law Compliance Paralegal

Position Summary:

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Coordinates with business partners in HR and other areas to provides oversight of employment law compliance requirements across the Company and identify, enhance and design administrative efficiencies and consistency. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESCompliance Research & Advisory
  • Monitor and research changes in federal, state and local employment, benefit and compensation laws and regulations, keeping abreast of current changes impacting Kohl's
  • Work with key business partners across HR to prioritize action plans in response to impending federal, state and local laws and regulations requiring action(s)
  • Coordinate with partners in facilitating awareness across HR as new legal requirements develop and direct compliance issues to appropriate channels for investigation and resolution
  • Collaborate with key business partners to create a plan that identifies trends in non-compliance and potential areas of vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution
Compliance Reporting & Documentation
  • Develop best practices for wage and hour, retention and other employment related record keeping requirements
  • Collaborate with HR business partners to develop and maintain a regular compliance checklist of various HR legal requirements (i.e. training, reporting, records retention, etc.)
Compliance Program Management & Training
  • Work with HR business partners to monitor training programs to ensure regulatory compliance for required employment documents such as I-9s and wage records
  • Coordinate with Legal Counsel and HR business partners to evaluate business processes including, but not limited to I-9 Compliance administration, E-Verify, Background Checks and Drug Testing

QUALIFICATIONS

required
  • Degree or equivalent certification in Employment Law, Human Resources, Labor Relations or Paralegal studies
  • At least 3 years experience in a legal setting including preparing complex legal documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others
  • Multi-task oriented

  • Proven knowledge of employment law processes, regulations and procedures
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels and present in front of large groups
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
