Position Summary:

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Responsible for leading & guiding the design of timely seasonal assortments that are relevant to the brand(s) position and target customer. Lead development process for large brand or multiple brands within division.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESConceptual Development
  • Ensures that product direction is consistent with global market research as well as brand position and business strategy.
  • Responsible for researching global market in order to identify new trends, fabrics, techniques, etc.
  • Ability to set a creative tone and to inspire ideas / new concepts outside current assortment.
  • Drives the conceptual development of the brand(s).
  • Influences decision making at buyer/DMM level; key partner to Brand Manager
  • Advocate and influence trend ideas in assortments
Lead Style, Fabric and Trim Development
  • Responsible for guiding team through entire product design process, including creating color palettes, art direction, fabric & trim selection, concept board creation, sketching, and fit as pertains to styling.
  • Reviews how development differentiates by brand.
  • Oversees brand clarity and consistency across categories within brand(s).
  • Actively oversees the print & graphic direction by brand to ensure consistency and differentiation of brands across division, consistent with market trends, brand position, and business strategy.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement. (CFT)
Management of associates
  • Manages direct reports, systems and projects to achieve unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
  • Prepares and analyze unit plans and reports.
  • Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
  • Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance and maintaining open communications.
  • Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments and establishing performance and development plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

required
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Previous management or supervisory experience
  • In-depth knowledge of silhouette, fabrication, construction and trim research.
  • Strong sense of color and ability to create art direction
  • Strong design and conceptual skills to evolve the brand(s).
preferred
  • College degree in Fashion Design or related field.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • 6-8 years design experience.

ADDENDUMSGraphic/Textile
  • Artwork Creation and Delivery • Prepares accurate information and placement of artwork to the vendors for sampling or production. • Works with designers to create art and concept boards for milestone meetings. • Interact and develop relationships with the cross functional teams to exchange processes, establishing CTC priorities, leverage expertise and streamline the process. • Meet quality and art productivity deadlines according to the calendar. • Applies seasonal results of color, print & pattern to future art.
  • Research • Stays abreast of benchmark and competitors • Mentors and trains textile/graphic artists and new hires. • Responsible for researching current textile/graphic trends in partnership with Design Team and Art Manager and influence conceptual direction
