Position Summary:

Job Title:  Security Guard- 3rd Shift (11:00pm- 7:30am)
 
Basic Function:
Under the direct supervision of assigned guard-in-charge, performs the following functions:
 

  1. Prevents loss of property or injury to W. O. Walker Center; Inc. tenants, employees, patients and visitors through enforcement of safety/security policies and procedures.

  2. Assists W. O. Walker Center Management and officers of other law enforcement agencies at W. O. Walker Center as requested and/or assigned.

  3. Performs general security functions.

  4. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 
            Knowledge, Skills and Physical Demands:

  1. Good oral, written, interpersonal communication and analytical skills required to prepare incident reports, provide effective testimony, and assist with obtaining facts.

  2. Basic knowledge of personal computer systems.

  3. Completion of 140 hour Ohio Peace Officer Training and Certification.

  4. Psychological fitness required handling with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situation and necessity for carrying a firearm and exercise power of arrest, as afforded private security guards.

  5. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  6. No prior conviction of a felony, or serious misdemeanor.

  7. Proficiency to include, but not limited to, the areas of laws of arrest, search and seizure, and security systems.

  8. Typical physical demands require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to chase, apprehend and subdue criminal suspects, and respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.  Requires extensive walking and standing for prolonged periods.  Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to pass an annual eye and hearing test with appropriate correction.

 
Experience:
 
Minimum of one-year prior related experience in field of criminal justice; private, public and military security and/or related law enforcement field.
 
NOTE:  completions of Basic Police Training administered by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council may substitute for the experience above.
 

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

 
After selection and placement into this position, requires a six-month on-the-job training to learn the departmental procedures and legal security procedures.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

  1. Prevents loss of property or injury to W. O. Walker Center, Inc, its tenants, employees, patients and visitors through enforcement of safety/security policies and procedures.

    1. Enforces safety and security policies, procedures and rules and regulations; performs duties on foot patrol; assures adequate levels of access control to WOW through mechanical and electromechanical devices and personal response for access.  Provides security escort as assigned throughout the W. O. Walker Center.

    2. Observes and reports, through prescribed channels, safety hazards, malfunctioning electrical systems, plumbing leaks, heating failures and other facilities failures; responds to malfunctions and hazardous situations to minimize liability.  Produces incident reports related to observed and situation requiring response and submits to guard-in-charge.

  2. Assists W. O. Walker Center, Inc. Management and guards of law enforcement agencies at the W. O. Walker Center as requested and/or assigned.  Responds to request for assistance in emergency situations.  Assists with apprehension of suspects, participates in special details and other special protective or investigative assignments, i.e., VIP security, sstakeouts etc.  Testifies in court.

  3. Performs general security functions.  Makes rounds of assigned building, provides information to tenants, patients, visitors and employees.  Directs traffic and enforces WOW parking regulations within the complex.  Attends in-service training programs to maintain current and up-to-date knowledge of loss prevention, security systems and other law enforcement techniques and methods.

  4. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
